Vodafone quick to offer tablet on contract deal
Samsung has won its battle to sell its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia after the country’s high court overturned Apple’s temporary injunction to halt sales.
The ruling means Samsung can bring the device to market before Christmas, with Vodafone advertising the device on its website homepage. It is selling it for $39 (£25.20) per month, including 1.5GB of data, on a 24 month contract.
The court decision is the latest step in the patent war between Apple and Samsung. In April, Apple sued Samsung for infringement of patents and trademarks. Samsung counter-sued, claiming Apple infringed some of its wireless patents. In October, a court in Sydney had granted Apple a temporary injunction to halt sales. However, last week, the full court overturned this injunction, leading Apple to appeal to Australia’s high court.
A Samsung spokesperson said: 'As the high court has rejected Apple’s leave to appeal, Samsung Electronics is pleased to announce the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be available in stores in time for the Christmas shopping period.'
