Panasonic to re-enter European market with new smartphone

Panasonic to re-enter European market with new smartphone

Electronics giant predicts 1.5 million European smartphone sales by 2013

Panasonic is planning to enter the European market for the first time since 2005 with a new smartphone set for release in March 2012.
The Japanese electronics company said the ‘rapidly shifting’ market towards smartphone usage and ‘steady’ growth expected from its overseas business had prompted it to re-enter the mobile space.
It is yet to name the new device but confirmed it will be an ‘ultra-slim D-shaped’ phone, with a 4.3-inch OLED display and qHD display resolution. The handset will also be waterproof and dustproof.

Panasonic said it is targeting European smartphone sales of 1.5 million in Europe next year. In its 2016 fiscal year, it aims to have global sales of 15 million units for its phone business. It predicted six million will come from Japan, including five million smartphone sales, with the remainder coming from Europe, Asia, China and the United States.
